55°
All Day
Every Day
Below the frostline, the ground maintains a pretty consistent temperature - between 50°-60° here in upstate New York. In the winter, below ground is typically warmer than the outside air and typically cooler than the summer air.
Ground Loops
The piping system that runs from your geothermal unit, outside down the wells below the frostline and back up to your unit - these are called the ground loops. The pipes are filled with a special water solution. Through this ground loop system heat can be absorbed from the ground or transferred back to the ground which provides efficient heat, central air and can even supplement your hot water heater.
Geothermal Unit
The geothermal unit consists of a heat pump and compressor which concentrates and vaporizes the water solution and then increases the pressure of that vapor. This process creates heat without combustion making it a safer and cleaner operation. Geothermal units can come equipped with smart monitoring solutions.
Geothermal
Heating & Cooling
One system provides heat for your whole house as well as central cooling. Geothermal is more efficient than traditional heating systems because it isn’t transforming frigid winter air to a cozy temperature. It is easier to warm up something from 55° to 70° than it is to warm up air that is 22°. In the summer, the same principle applies. It is easier to transfer heat from your house to the ground where that heat can be absorbed easily rather than forcing it back into the already heat saturated summer air like traditional AC units do.
